Role Summary:

As the Finance Director at FBCS, you will oversee the financial operations, including budget development and management, financial planning and analysis, accounting, and reporting. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with financial regulations, facilitating audits, and effectively managing resources to align with the school’s educational goals. Key aspects of the role involve leading the finance team, communicating financial information to stakeholders, and exploring funding opportunities. This role demands a blend of financial expertise, strategic planning, and strong leadership skills to maintain financial health and support the educational mission of the district.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and oversee the annual budget.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular financial reports.
  • Conduct financial analysis and engage in strategic forecasting.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards and financial regulations.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial statements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audit processes.
  • Allocate resources effectively to align with educational goals.
  • Identify and secure additional funding opportunities, including grant writing.
  • Manage district investments and optimize revenue streams.
  • Handle payroll processing, including tax deposits and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax reports and 1099 forms.
  • Oversee Federal and state grant reporting.
  • Fulfill human resources responsibilities, including HR state reporting.
  • Communicate financial matters effectively with the school board, staff, and community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with financial agencies and stakeholders.
  • Lead and provide guidance to the finance department staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Skills & Qualifications: 

The best Finance Director candidates have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. A minimum of an associate’s degree in accounting is required and prior supervisory experience is preferred, as are the following skills and qualifications:

  • Analytical thinking: Reports must be analyzed to help identify any issues that might affect business operations.
  • Customer service: The Finance Director works with internal and external customers; to help retain current customers and attract new ones, they must provide a superior customer experience.
  • Accounting: Having knowledge and understanding of accounting principles is necessary for the Finance Director to perform their bookkeeping and banking duties.
  • Computer skills: The Finance Director uses Word, Excel, Outlook, Quickbooks, and Blackbaud daily to maintain financial records, write and generate reports, save data, email clients and customers, and create presentations for staff meetings.
  • Organization skills: Good organization skills help the Finance Director be more efficient and effective with their records management tasks.
